Drama class will be a time for your child to use their imagination, tell stories, create characters, and flex their creative muscles. It is the goal of the PS 133 drama program to engage each child in the artistic process, allowing them to learn more about themselves and the world around them in a safe and encouraging environment.

 

Through theater education, students build the necessary life-skills I refer to as the Five C’s; creativity, communication, collaboration, confidence, and compassion. Students will develop community as they learn to work together as an ensemble, compassion as they portray diverse characters and confidence as they learn new skills to express their feelings and ideas.

The physical education program at P.S. 133 is dedicated to helping our entire school community achieve their lifelong health and wellness goals. The students participate in a variety of activities and programs that maintain and enhance all aspects of a healthy lifestyle.

 

The students that are in K-2 work on developing their gross and loco-motor skills through an array of topics that include using various manipulative and pieces of age-appropriate equipment to enhance their learning experiences with Ms. Matute.

 

Our upper-grade students in grades 3-5 work towards learning the necessary skills needed to participate in a wide range of activities including but not limited to traditional sports with Mr. Blatt.

 

 

On behalf of the PS133K Science Cluster Teaching Staff, we are ecstatic to teach students about the integration of science within their everyday lives. Students use the engineering design process consisting of technology, engineering, and mathematics to conduct experiments while collaborating and investigating with their peers.

 

Engineering is a vital part of integration within our STEM curriculum at PS.133K because it requires students to be critical thinkers and investigate topics from an engineering perspective. Math is also another essential components within engineering because students are able to use their data for multiple purposes such as measuring, comparing, analyzing and prompting evidence to explain their choice of action.

 

STEM Education integrates both science and technology to enhance students’ overall learning experience. Since engineering activities are based on real-world problems, children are able to see how it is relevant to their daily lives. Students are able to use project-based learning to receive a hands-on learning experience.

Studio works exclusively with the visual arts: drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, sculpting, and photography. This commitment to programs solely in the visual arts has enabled the organization to develop a unique expertise in the field of arts education.

 

 

Working artists are particularly suited for teaching art, not only because they have extensive knowledge of the history and culture of art and strong technical skills, but also because they are able to model an artist’s way of thinking and working. This enthusiasm is conveyed to their students, who learn that art is more than skill – it is a process of exploration and discovery. Every year, hundreds of artists apply for teaching positions with Studio; from the talented group, only the most qualified are chosen.

 

 

Studio believes that training, supporting, and collaborating with those who help shape young people’s lives is a key component of making art an indispensable part of education. Classroom teachers do not simply drop their students off for art instruction with Studio. Instead, they too participate in the session – often working with the Studio instructor to reinforce academic subjects. Thus, by melding the unique skills of an artist and a classroom teacher, Studio is able to create programs that are not only tailored to a specific school, but that are more effective than either Studio or the school could create individually. Both Studio and its partnering sites make a commitment to provide the funds, facilities, materials, schedules, and training that enable art-making to become a regular part of the day and an ongoing part of
the curriculum.
